BOWDOIN – Burnt Meadow Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, announces the winners of the 2002-2003 National Defense Medal Award. Each was chosen by their respective school for outstanding citizenship, honesty, courage, service, leadership and patriotism.
Lisbon High School’s medal recipient is Robert Cloutier, son of Timothy and Julie Cloutier of Lisbon. A senior, Cloutier is vice president of his class. He is active in basketball, baseball and soccer. Cloutier was honored as a Student of the Month, has been nominated to attend Boys State and is a member of the Interact Club and the Big Brothers Big Sisters Program. His out-of-school interests and activities include snowboarding, leading a Bible study group, playing the guitar and paintball.
Oak Hill High School in Wales has selected Mike Daggett. He is the son of Steve and Debbie Daggett of Sabattus. Also a senior, Daggett has received all-conference awards for baseball and soccer in 2001 and 2002. He is active in the school French and ski clubs and is a member of the National Honor Society. Daggett is a volunteer instructor with the Lost Valley Handicapped Ski Program and is involved with the Read to Succeed Literacy Program. He received the American Legion Outstanding Spokesman for Freedom Award. He is self-employed with Mike’s Lawn Mowing.
Burnt Meadow Chapter will honor the students at a luncheon on Saturday, April 19, at the home of member Corley Anne Byras.
