Dear Sun Spots: Could you please tell me the name of the singer on WGME, Channel 13, who sings “Hello Maine” during the commercials on the news?
She has a very nice voice.
I love your column. I read it every day. – Doris Laliberte, Lewiston.
Dear Sun Spots: First, I’d like to say that Sun Spots starts my day. Thank you for so much information.
I’d like to know who sings the Maine jingle on Channel 13 during the news? This is a neat little tune, and this lady has such a smile in her voice. It makes you smile in turn just to hear her. – D.V. Murphy, Bethel.
Answer: Sun Spots contacted the station, and Betsy Bean was more than happy to help. She was also pleased to note readers were interested. Bean says the singer of “Hello Maine” is Florence Warner, and she is from upstate New York. She was the original voice for the song when it first debuted on WGME 13 in the 1980s. Bean says Channel 13 is pleased to have her back again on WGME 13, as it celebrates 50 years of being on the air in Maine. Sun Spots would like to congratulate the station on its impressive anniversary.
Dear Sun Spots: Less than five years ago, I had an Armstrong vinyl floor installed in my kitchen.
The installation has since proven to be a shoddy job. Nail heads from the subflooring are coming through, cutting the vinyl. Where the corners were cut to be fitted, the vinyl was torn; now there are black marks where the torn areas are. As for the flooring, it has large yellow spots that I cannot remove. I have scrubbed on my hands and knees to no avail.
I contacted the local Norway business that sold and installed the flooring four times. They have not attempted to do anything about the problems. I paid over $1,500 for a job not well done and for a floor that should have have lasted more than four-plus years.
I would like to contact a representative from Armstrong flooring. If you could please help me with that I would appreciate it. – Floored in Norway.
Answer: Contact Armstrong World Industries between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, at 1-800-233-3823, or via mail Attention: Consumer Solution Center, P.O. Box 3001, Lancaster, PA 17604.
Dear Sun Spots: I would like to know if Mark LaFlamme’s father or grandfather was related to the photographer that took my high school photo in 1933 on Lisbon Street. I always read his column and enjoy it very much. – No Name, No Town.
Answer: LaFlamme says both his father and paternal grandfather – David Pete and Ovilda LaFlamme, respectively – died when he was very young. Might either of these be the photographer you recall? LaFlamme believes it’s unlikely your photographer is a relation.
Dear Sun Spots: Please could you tell me what local dealers buy 45’s and 33’s of music from the ‘60s? – No Name, No Town.
Answer: You might want to contact Bill Cartmel of Lewiston to see if he’s interested. You can reach him at (207) 783-1378. Cartmel travels all over New England purchasing records, and typically purchases 33 rpm and 45 rpm records, and will even buy some 78’s. In addition, Cartmel says he knows a lot about music from the 1960s and pre-1960s.
Cartmel also specializes in antique postcards. And anyone wishing to sell their old postcards should contact Cartmel for this service, also.
In addition, you might want to also contact Enterprise Records, 613 A Congress St., Portland, (207) 773-7672. Please leave them a message if you have records to sell.
