Dear Sun Spots: Back in July we saw the movie ‘Finding Home.’ We were wondering if this would be available on video or DVD? It was a beautiful movie. Also, what was the title of the book it was based on? Who was the author? Thank you. We enjoy your column very much. – Joanne in Livermore.

Answer: Sun Spots spoke with producer Victoria Paige Meyerink who says the soundtrack is being released by www.buysoundtrax.com in December The DVD and VHS will be released Jan. 31, 2006 by Monarch. As it gets closer to the release date, you might like to check with your local movie store to see they order it for their stock. It’s possible the film is also showing at various independent theaters here in Maine so you may want to check movie listings around the state for these.

But if you miss them, not to worry. Meyerink says that the movie did so well in Maine it will be returning to Maine theaters perennially each year.

Along with actors Lisa Brenner, Lousie Fletcher, Jason Miller, Genevieve Bujold, Misha Collins and Johnny Messner, the picture also features a vocal performance by teenage country and gospel singing sensation Danielle Nicole Blevins of Turner. Blevins was discovered by the director Lawrence David Foldes, Meyerink’s husband while filming on location at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea church in Stonington.

The story was originally set in the Wisconsin Dells area by writer Steve Zambo, who was a student at The International Film & Television Workshops in Rockport. Zambo says the story was originally titled “The Last Resort” and he’d intended it for production with a Christian organization he was working with at the time. He showed it to both Meyerink and Foldes who are faculty members at the workshop and the rest is history.

The screenplay was written by Foldes along with writing partner Grafton Harper. So far the movie has received 21 major awards, five of them for best picture and it has been screened at 30 festivals.

Meyerink says the thought was to have this movie reach as many people as they could, tell the best story, and transport the audience somewhere for two hours. Its first showing to the public in theaters took place in New England.

An interesting tidbit from Meyerink that Sun Spots thought you and other fans would get a kick out of: She says the movie was so hot it sold more tickets than ‘War of the Worlds’ in one night!

Shot during five months in Deer Isle, Blue Hill, Sedgwick and other Maine locations, filmmakers erected a full-service temporary movie studio near Stonington. Meyerink says they wrapped filming up just before Christmas. The next day a huge storm came and wiped out their docks and platforms.

Dear Sun Spots: I am looking for a pattern for a recliner cover, having looked in all the fabric shops. If anyone out there can help me I would appreciate it. I need a regular pattern and a large-size pattern. Also if any woodworkers or craft people could tell me where to find a small motor for an animated Christmas character, that would be great. Mine doesn’t work any more, and I don’t know where to find one. Love your column. Hope someone can answer my request. Thank you. – Betsy Dewitt, South Paris.
