A group of “hand washing police” just got their data in, they reported one in three men don’t wash their hands after they visit the bathroom. A big gap from the men and women who wash in at about 88 percent that do wash their hands. Leaving the other 12 percent to compare with the mens’ 33 percent. The last time the hand washing police appeared was two years ago and one out of four men didn’t wash their hands and 10 percent of women. “Guys need to step up to the sink”, says Brain Samsoni. Now this survey wasn’t even taken in private bathrooms, it was taken in public bathrooms.
In the survey they went to a lot of places. In Atlanta’s Turner Field baseball stadium only 57 percent of guys washed up after using the bathroom. About 95 percent of women washed up after using the bathroom there. San Fransico’s Freey Terminal Farmers Market, 62.5 percent of guys used soap and water. Compared to women who had 84 percent of them wash their hands. The “hand police” got about 6000 people who either didn’t wash their hands or did.
Washing your hands is one of the most important things to do to ward off flu and other viruses. Even though in an interactive survey 92 percent of Americans said that they wash their hands after going to the bathroom, only 77 percent actually do. A six percent decline from the study in 2005. Only 34 percent of people said that they wash their hands after coughing or sneezing, and only three out of four people wash up after changing a diaper. Sanitizing gels and wipes are a great thing to carry around you when a sink, isn’t near (like if you are eating in the car.)
I think it is gross that people don’t wash their hands. Even at a farmers market where they are likely to have been touching food and what not that people are going to eat! From now on I’m always washing off my fruits before I even think about eating them. Also, I think it is disgusting because if they spied on 6000 males then only 4000 of them would have washed their hands. That’s repulsing!
Even with all the hand sanitizer stuff out there when all you have to do is rub it on your hands and go. It’s also repulsing to think that for this person it wasn’t even at home or something, but at a baseball stadium, who knows what kinds of germs they are coming home with. Yew! I think America could benefit by reading this article because they can be warned of all the diseases they can get from not washing their hands. Also, I think it emphasizes the point to America why to wash your hands in a public place because so few people do.
