Thursday’s high winds knocked down trees and limbs around Maine, causing scattered power outages. This Central Maine Power crew was working to repair a broken pole at the corner of Old Lewiston Road and North Main Street in North Monmouth. Power went out shortly before 11 a.m. and was back on by about 3 p.m. As of 5:30 p.m., outages were reported in Greenwood, Industry, Mount Vernon, Vassalboro, Harpswell, several towns in Piscataquis County, Pittsfield, Waterville and several towns in Somerset County. CMP spokeswoman Gail Rice said about 5,500 customers were affected in early afternoon, but by 6:20 p.m., that number was down to 470, and the company expected to have everyone back online during the evening.
