KITTERY, Maine (AP) — A general store in Kittery that bills itself as the nation’s oldest grocery run by the same family has reopened its doors less than three weeks after being bought at a U.S. bankruptcy court auction.
The Portsmouth Herald said Frisbee’s Market reopened Thursday, with the adjoining Cap’n Simeon’s Galley restaurant slated to open next week.
The business closed its doors in January and later filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy after running into tough times with the slumping economy, a fire and the death of an owner. Before being bought by Massachusetts investor Al D’Amico, the business had been in the Frisbee family for 181 years.
D’Amico has retained the former owners, Cindy Frisbee and her father, Frank, to manage the business.
