BELFAST, Maine (AP) — Two men face charges in connection with the theft of not one but five vehicles in Belfast and Searsport in a joy riding spree that allegedly took place after they consumed large quantities of alcohol.
Belfast Detective Michael McFadden said the spree began Sunday night when 26-year-old Michael Pyle of Searsport and 33-year-old Richard LaMarche of Woburn, Mass., allegedly stole a station wagon from a Belfast street after leaving a party.
McFadden told the Bangor Daily News that before they were done, the men randomly took four other cars and pickup trucks that had keys in them and drove them around before abandoning them.
Police said Pyle was summoned on five counts of theft by unauthorized taking. LaMarche is also expected to be charged, but is now being held without bail on unrelated felony warrants from Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
