BIDDEFORD, Maine (AP) — A fire that destroyed an apartment building in Biddeford has been ruled an arson.

Sgt. Joel Davis of the state fire marshal’s office said the Tuesday afternoon fire that forced seven families from their homes was intentionally set in a first-floor apartment.

Everyone escaped unharmed, although one man was transported to the hospital when he had trouble breathing.

Firefighters had the fire under control within an hour, but not before flames damaged the side of a neighboring building.
