LEWISTON — Executive Director Alyson Stone announced Wednesday morning that Empower Lewiston will close its doors at the end of the year. The group, created out of $2 million in federal funds targeted at lifting up downtown Lewiston 10 years ago, had grappled with whether to continue its mission after December.
“We’re not wanting to continue in a way that’s just being another nonprofit competing against other nonprofits,” Stone said. “We’re at an unusual but perfectly fine ending point.”
Empower Lewiston has about $300,000 to spend as it winds down and is still looking for more projects.
