NORTHPORT, Maine (AP) — Two men whose construction boat sank about a mile off Maine’s coast survived what may have been an hourlong swim.
Brandon Drake and Bradford Enos, who work for a drilling company, said they had to swim for it after the boat sank in whitecaps late Tuesday afternoon.
The pair, with life jackets but no survival suits, eventually swam ashore in Northport, where they collapsed on a sun-warmed asphalt driveway while awaiting medical help.
Curtis Barthel, commanding officer at Coast Guard Station Rockland, tells the Bangor Daily News that water temperature in Penobscot Bay was 47 degrees.
