LEWISTON — Alex Wong hit a two-run triple during Gayton’s seven-run eruption in the seventh inning as Gayton dropped Smith-Tobey with an 11-1 victory in an American Legion baseball game Wednesday.
Pitchers Jeff Keene and Willy Emerson combined to throw a three-hitter, with Keene getting the win. Gayton (2-0) used an 12-hit attack to subdue Smith-Tobey (2-1).
Keene and Ben Piper each hit a one-run double, and Willy Emerson also added a double. Keene, Greg LaBonte, Hyde and Emerson each had two hits. Gayton committed no editors.
