PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Jail officials in Maine are on the lookout for a prisoner who walked away from a work release program.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department said it’s seeking the public’s help in locating 25-year-old Misty Sargent of Westbrook, who disappeared Monday.

Sargent was in the news in March when she pleaded guilty to two counts of unauthorized taking for her role in what police called an adoption scam. Investigators said Sargent promised her unborn baby to couples in California and New Jersey and took money from them before giving the baby to a couple from New York.

Sheriff’s department officials said Sargent was in jail Monday for probation violation charges.
