PARIS — The Paris Public Library has announced the children’s summer program, “Discover Something New at the Paris Public Library.” A variety of programs and activities for children of all ages will be offered.

The Summer Reading Challenge will run from June 14 through Aug. 21. Reading logs are available at the library. After 500 minutes have been recorded, return the logs to the library and swap for a free book (three-book maximum). The top five readers will each receive a $25 gift card. A secret prize will be given to whoever reads 500 minutes first, and a special prize will be awarded to everyone if the library’s total exceeds 120,000 minutes. Last year the children and youth read 132,660 minutes.

Unplugged Mornings for ages 7 to 12, with Librarian Billie/Lulu Damon, will meet at 10:30 a.m. Mondays. Participants will explore classic tales, engage in computer-free strategy games and work on crafts. Simple crafts and toys will be available in the Craft Room for younger family and day care members.

The Knitting Club for children and adults, with Librarian Jennifer Lewis, will meet at 4 p.m. Mondays. The group is for those with any level of experience. Help is available for beginning knitters. Participants are welcome to bring their latest projects. Other needle crafters are welcome.

Children age 7 to 12 can discover the language of music by learning to play the recorder with Librarian Joan Parker, at 3 p.m. Wednesdays, June 16 to Aug. 18. Recorders with music books are available. Preregistration is requested.

A Tot’s Story Time for children through age 7, with Librarian Joan Parker, will meet at 10 a.m. Thursdays. Basic crafts will follow.

Earth Crafts, for kids ages 9 to 13 who love crafts and nature, with Librarian Michaela Batstone, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursdays. Registration is requested to ensure enough material for everyone.

A preschool play group, for ages 1 to 3, with Librarian Jennifer Lewis, will meet at 9:30 a.m. Fridays.

The third annual library sleepover, for ages 10 to 13, will be from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20. There will be food, games and activities, with Librarian Michaela Batstone. Registration is required.
