A Ready…Read! Awards breakfast was held recently. The Ready…Read! initiative is designed to spread awareness on the positive impact that reading to young children has on their learning in school. The individuals pictured were recognized for the role they have played in helping to spread the word on the importance of early literacy. Participants at the breakfast also enjoyed a reading of “Hockey,” by fifth-grade Montello student and author of the story, Thomas Jumper. Yellow School Bus Award recipients, from left are Eric Bonawitz, representing the Lewiston MAINEiacs; Gordon Harris; Kathryn Stead; Joanne Dupuis; Pam Osborn; Betsy Norcross Plourde, representing Advocates for Children; and keynote speaker Dr. Rick Small, executive director of the Good Shepherd Food Bank.
