AUBURN — The test is on for today.
Packgen, the Auburn-based manufacturer trying to entice BP to use its oil containment boom in the Gulf of Mexico, had been scheduled to test its product with BP officials off the coast of Theodore, Ala. on Monday.
Due to a delay, the test is taking place Wednesday, according to Jana LaPoint, who sits on Packgen’s board.
“I’ve been keeping my fingers crossed because of the storm,” she said.
Yesterday, the two senior engineers Packgen sent down to help with the test spent the day filling out waivers to go out to sea.
LaPoint was unsure how soon the company would get official word of its test results. BP’s approval could mean big orders for Packgen, which has 70,000 to 80,000 feet of boom in stock and materials to make a half-million feet more.
