OXFORD — A home that was the target of an arsonist earlier this month was destroyed by fire early Wednesday morning and investigators from the Office of the State Fire Marshal were on the scene.
Firefighters from at least six departments responded to the blaze at 67 Jenny Lane early Wednesday but the interior of the home was largely gutted by fire, according to a reporter on the scene.
The home was up for sale, and according to neighbors, the owners were set to close on a sale agreement Wednesday.
The home’s owners Barry and Carol Laufer had completed moving their belongings from the property Tuesday, neighbors said.
The home was unoccupied at the time of the fire but both Laufers were at the scene Wednesday morning.
Last week Robert G. Conrad, 34, of Western Avenue in Paris was indicted by an Oxford County Grand Jury on a single count of arson for a blaze that destroyed the home of Robert Walker at 303 Country Club Road in Norway in 2007.
The investigation of a June 4 fire at the same Jenny Lane home led to Conrad’s indictment on the Norway fire, court documents show. That fire did an estimated $15,000 worth of damage to the home.
Conrad was not charged in connection to the June 4 fire at the Jenny Lane, although authorities determined that fire was the work of an arsonist as incendiary material was used to start the blaze. Court records show Conrad was questioned about the fire as well.
State and local authorities continued to investigate the Wednesday fire at Jenny Lane but had yet to determine a cause.
More information will posted here as it becomes available.
