BYRON — A driver swatting at a bee that got into her car led to a crash Saturday evening on Dingle Hill Road in Byron.
Gail Halliday, 51, of Oakland told authorities that she was trying to swat at the bee when she jerked the wheel and veered off the road, hitting a parked minivan owned by Susan Lancey of Turner Falls, Mass.
Deputy William Nelson of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office said that the crash occurred about 5:45 p.m. Saturday on Dingle Hill Road in the Coos Canyon region. Lancey and her family were in a nearby swimming hole, and no one was in the parked vehicle.
Halliday was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. A 14-year-old boy who was a passenger in her car was not injured as a result of the crash.
