STRONG — Western Maine United soccer will host a class to certify assistant referees for travel soccer games. Those successfully completing the one-day class will be certified as eligible to be sideline assistants in games played by teams who are part of the Soccer Maine program, such as Western Maine United, which has fielded travel teams in Franklin County for many years.
Assistant referees may also take another class later in the year to receive a license as a full on-field official. Annual recertification courses are required to maintain certification at all levels. Assistant referees and on-field referees are paid for the Soccer Maine games they work and they are not restricted to any one location in Maine.
The class will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Strong Elementary School. Participants must be at least 14 years old. The cost for the class is $65 each person and preregistration is required. There will be classroom and outdoor components of the course and a test will be given at the end of the day.
