DIXFIELD — Tyler Gates lined a single up the middle to drive in the winning run with two outs in the seventh to lead No. 4 Swasey-Torrey to a 3-2 victory over Bethel-Locke Mills in the quarterfinals of the American legion Zone III tournament on Monday.
The Dixfield club rallied from a 2-0 deficit, scoring once in the sixth before the faieful seventh ionning.
After the first two batters struck out against Bethel pitcher Ben Field, Josh Palmer walked on a 3-2 pitch. After Cliff Turner walked, Aaron fenstermacher tied the game with a ground single that eluded the Bethel infielders.
After several fouled pitches, Gates ripped the game-winner to center to plate Turner.
Jeb Clarke had two hits for Bethel, includin a solo home run to deep left-center in the secodn inning.
Ryan Lafleur fired a four-hitter and struck out 11 and walked one to pick up the win. Field had seven strikeouts in the loss.
Swasey-Torrey (12-7) plays at Gayton in Lewiston in the semifinals Tuesday at 5:45 p.m.

LEWISTON — Mat Gordon fired a one-hitter and his teammates erupted for nine runs in the second inning as Gayton rolled to an 11-0 victory over Northern Oxford County in the opening round of the American Legion Zone III playoffs Monday.
Jeff Keene and Alex Parker each had two-run singles in the inning, while Joe Sullivan, who had two hits, had three RBIs during the outburst.
Greg Labonte had a single and a double, while Alex Wong chipped in with a double.
Brady Fergola had the lone hit for Northern Oxford County with one out in the third inning. Gordon sruck out three in the five-inning contest.
Bessey Motors 10, Smith-Tobey 0
PARIS — Pitcher D.J. Croy went the distance and gave up three hits as Bessey Motors (17-2) shut out Smith-Tobey, 10-0, in an American Legions baseball quarterfinal Monday.
Bessy Motors used just five key hits to jump out to a 7-0 lead after three innings. Bessey added three mored in the five-inning game.
Catcher Matt Verrier was the only repeat hitter with two, and that included a two-run double in the fifth inning. Teammate Ethan Davidson also had a double.
Bessey goes on to play Windham today in Paris at 5:30 p.m., in another Legion playoff game.
