Bridge play

OXFORD — The Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Group met on July 23 at the Oxford Community Center, with seven-and-a-half tables. A team from Cabot cheese surprised the group with samples of sharp cheddar cheese, as well as shopping bags with their logo.

Winners were: first, Bill Tedford and Milt McKeen; second, Martha Young and Bailey Geeslin; third, Carol Curran and Suzanne Andrews; fourth, Nancy and Larry Farmer; fifth, Penny and Bob Thomas; sixth, Dick Allen and Richard Balian.

Pastor leaving

SUMNER — The Congregational Church of East Sumner will say good-bye to the Rev. Nancy Kennedy and her son Nicholas on Sunday, Aug. 1. Kennedy has served the congregation and community for three-and-a-half years, but has taken a job closer to her home and her son’s school.

The community is invited to share in her last service at 9 a.m. Refreshments will be served.

Society meeting

LOCKE MILLS — Members of the Greenwood Historical Society will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at the historical building on Main Street, for the annual picnic potluck supper.

Attendees should bring a dish to share and utensils to eat with.

Bible school

OXFORD — Pastor Lloyd Waterhouse of Grace Fellowship Church invites area children, ages 3 to teens, to attend a “High Seas Expedition” Vacation Bible School at the church on Poplar Street. It will run from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday, Aug. 9 to 13.

Children attending should be potty-trained and parents are welcome to stay with their children. There will be Bible lessons, Chadder Theater, snacks, games, crafts and music. There will be a closing program at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 13, at the church. Refreshments will follow the program.
