Army Staff Sgt. Ronald P. Austin Jr. has been named Drill Sergeant of the Cycle.

Selection was based on the his exemplary duty performance, job knowledge, leadership qualities, teamwork, significant self-improvement, personal achievements, notable accomplishments and community service and support.

In addition, Austin was decorated with the Army Achievement Medal.

Austin, a drill sergeant, is assigned to Foxtrot Battery, 1st Battalion, 19th Field Artillery, Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. He has served in the military for 18 years.

He is the son of Ronald P. Austin Sr. and Vicki K. Austin, both of Hartford.

His wife, Abigail, is the daughter of Stephan Catanese of Paris and Janice Catanese of Lewiston.

The sergeant graduated in 1991 from Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.
