FARMINGTON — Adria (Dee) Keneagy of Mt. Vernon will be the SugarWood Gallery’s featured Artist of the Month in August. An open house reception will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6, and again from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7. The public is invited and refreshments will be available.

Keneagy started painting in the mid-1990s when the youngest of her four children set out for college. Exploring a long suppressed interest, she enrolled in courses in color theory and design, and immersed herself in the offerings of the Guild Studio School in Northampton, Mass. She studied there with realist Barbara Johnson (oils), pastelists Jamie Young and Jane Lund and several watercolor artists.

She has exhibited her work at the Western Maine Art Center in Norway, the Mt. Washington Valley Art Association Gallery in North Conway, N.H., Pennacook Gallery in Rumford, Gallery 302 in Bridgton, the Mermaid Gallery in South Paris and locally in Belgrade and the Maine Bone Carving gallery. Also in many hospitals, libraries and banks.

Keneagy finds inspiration in the beauty of the Maine landscape, particularly the mountains and lakes of western Maine where she lives and also in her gardens and wildflowers.

She served four years on the board of directors for the Western Maine Art Group in Norway, three of which she organized their annual juried show. She also served on the initial board during the development of the Bridgton Art Guild and Gallery 302.

SugarWood Gallery is located at 248 Broadway. Hours are from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
