NORWAY — The Oxford County Democrats have opened two offices for the 2010 campaign. While grand openings will occur later in the summer, the offices are functioning at 310 Main St., Norway and 432 Hancock St., Rumford.

According to Oxford County Democratic Chairperson Cathy Newell of Greenwood, both offices have interns organizing activities with Chloe Bergman-Ray of West Paris assigned to the Norway office and Lydia McHugh of Mexico and Lanette Bryant of Dixfield assigned to the Rumford office. All are college students and will be busy training interns for the fall from local high schools as well as working with volunteers of all ages.

For information about the intern program or volunteering in the offices, search “Oxford County ME Democrats” on Facebook or contact Newell at 875-2116.

Plans are also in the works for the annual barbecue fundraiser to be held at the University of Maine 4-H Camp (formerly Maine Conservation School) on Lake Christopher in Bryant Pond. The event will run from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, and will feature a social time and a traditional cookout menu with all the fixings in the dining hall, followed by a program.

Local candidates and state party leaders are expected to attend. Tickets are $20 each person, with children under 10 at $5. Attendees are welcome to come earlier and enjoy the opportunities for hiking and swimming. Tickets should be reserved by calling 875-2116.
