MONMOUTH — Monmouth Community Players will present a reading of its December show, “The Butterfingers Angel, Mary & Joseph, Herod the Nut, & the Slaughter of 12 Hit Carols in a Pear Tree,” on Monday, Aug. 16.

The play is a retelling of the nativity. While it is not a musical, there is singing.

This will be a good opportunity for those who would like to audition in September to get familiar with the play. Although there are a few children’s roles, this is not a children’s show. There are some adult topics and language.

The reading will be at 7 p.m. at Cumston Hall. Admission is free.
