RANGELEY — Natural Resource Specialist Dave Fuller will present a workshop from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, at the Wilhelm Reich Museum.

The workshop, entitled “Goods from the Woods,” will cover local products made or gathered from the forest, known as nontimber forest products. Participants will have an opportunity to recycle a Christmas tree for their own balsam pillow. The workshop is intended for all ages, and there is no charge.

Fuller is an employee of he University of Maine Cooperative Extension where he works as an educator in agriculture and nontimber forest products. He is a seventh-generation Mainer who first started working with nontimber forest products as a boy with balsam fir pillows and helping his dad make maple syrup.

In his talk, he will cover the history of certain products, such as spruce gum, and why the past is so important to the Maine woods today.

Participants should meet at the conference building for the workshop since Fuller will show slides with his presentation. He also plans to take participants outside for some of the program. Insect repellent and water is strongly advised. Participants may also want to bring materials for taking notes.

This will be the fifth free workshop in the Sunday summer series at the museum. Natural Science Program brochures are available at the museum office and around Rangeley, listing other workshops and trail maps.

For questions, call the Wilhelm Reich Museum at 864-3443 or Bonnie Clark, program coordinator, at 778-6637.
