AUBURN — Edward Little scored twice in the opening nine minutes, setting the tone for a 3-1 field hockey triumph over Cony in their KVAC season opener.
Jordan Tate scored an unassisted goal to give the Red Eddies a 1-0 advantage. Two minutes later, Danielle Demers fed Emily Ranucci for the eventual game-winning goal.
After Allison Zubrod narrowed the deficit to 2-1 late in the first half, Marie Dufresne-Dixon scored off a pass by Ranucci to put the game out of each at the 18-minute mark.
Edward Little outgunned the Rams, 46-18. Amanda Williams made 17 saves for EL, while Asia Le was credited with 33 stops.
Oxford Hills 1, Brunswick 0
PARIS — Ashley West popped the ball into the goal during a scramble in front of the Brunswick net with 10 seconds remaining in the first half to lift Oxford Hills to a 1-0 triumph in the season opener Thursday.
There was no assist on West’s tally.
The Vikings’ defense prevented Brunswick from mounting any kind of offense, limiting the Dragons to two shots on goal.
Rachel Brennan stopped both shots to earn the shutout for the Vikings. Sydney Escoe made six saves for Brunswick.
