MONMOUTH — The Monmouth Community Players will hold auditions for its next show, “The Butterfingers Angel, Mary & Joseph, Herod the Nut, & the Slaughter of 12 Hit Carols in a Pear Tree,” on Sunday and Monday, Sept. 12-13.

The play, by William Gibson, is a modern retelling of the nativity. While it is not a musical, there is singing in the show. Roles include Angel, young man; Mary, teenage girl, but actress must be an adult; Joseph, middle-aged man; Tree, woman of undetermined age; The Man in Gray/Courier/Herod, man in his 40s or older; several women and men to play multiple roles; children, age 6 to teens, to play multiple roles.

Although there are children’s roles, this is not a children’s show per say. There are some adult topics and language.

Those auditioning will be asked to read from the script and sing a carol of their choice. They may also bring an instrument to play. Excerpts from the script will be available for perusal at the Cumston Public Library.

Auditions will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 12 and at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Cumston Hall lower library. Young children are asked to come on Sunday and will be seen first.

Show dates are Dec. 3-5 and 10-12. For more information, call director Colleen Mahan at 312-0890 or e-mail [email protected].
