MEXICO — The Stephens High School Class of 1955 will meet for their monthly luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, at the Far East Restaurant.

Society program

DIXFIELD — The Dixfield Historical Society will host “Maine’s Lost Trotting Parks” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, in the Charter Meeting Room.

At one time there were well over 100 trotting parks in Maine, most of them lost to history, covered over, logged over, grown over and forgotten. Canton had one as did Dixfield, Rumford, Andover and Bethel.

Steve Thompson of Hallowell will present the program. Peter Stowell, historian of the Dixfield Historical Society, who will augment the presentation with news articles, anecdotes and writings he’s discovered about Dixfield’s own trotting park.

Pancake breakfast

CANTON — Whitney Lodge 167 will host a pancake breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11. The cost will be $5 a plate.                                                           

Class party

DIXFIELD — The Mexico High Class of 1975 is planning a 35th class party on Saturday, Sept. 25, at Mt. View Campground. The committee invites classmates to join them for a gathering at 3 p.m. with games, music and a buffet meal at 6 p.m.
