Bean contest

OXFORD — The Oxford County Fair Museum will hold its annual baked bean contest on the last day of the fair, Saturday, Sept. 18. The beans should be made from one pound of any dried beans.

Hot beans should be delivered to the museum between 1 and 2 p.m. Judging will be done by fair-goers who will pay a small fee to sample all of the beans and cast their vote. Judging will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. For more information, contact Dee Farr at 539-4232 or e-mail [email protected].

Bridge play

OXFORD — The Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met Sept. 10 at the Oxford Recreation Hall, King Street. A seven-table Mitchell movement was played.

Finishing first n/s Flight A were Dick Allen and Pete Cummings; second, Marilyn and Richard Canton, who were also first in Flight B; third, Kathy Feld and Haziel Glazier, also second in Flight B. Finishing third in Flight B were Suzanne Dame Andrews and Carol Curran.

Indoor sale

WATERFORD — An indoor yard sale will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Wilkins House, Plummer Hill, next to the church. Shoppers will roll a dice and may get a percentage off of their total purchase.

The last two sales will take place Oct. 16 and Nov. 27. Proceeds will benefit the maintenance fund of both buildings.

WEST PARIS — The Finnish-American Heritage Society will hold their first meeting of the fall season at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, at the Finnish-American Heritage Center, 8 Maple St. Following a brief business meeting, Barbara Payne will present a program, with video, of her recent visit to Finland. A coffee social will follow.

The public is welcome to attend.

Church events

WEST PARIS — The West Paris Baptist Church will host a church and community supper at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18. The menu will include barbecue chicken, salads, corn, rolls and watermelon.

On Sunday, Sept 19, the Sunday School will begin at 10:30 a.m. with a New Olympians program. A “singspiration” program will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, followed by refreshments.
