The Maine State Fire Marshal says the state’s propane supply is safe after a warning was issued that faulty propane may have been shipped to Maine.
The fire marshal’s office conducted a survey of the state’s distributors and found that none of the gas without odorant had been shipped into Maine, according to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Fire Marshal John Dean said that his office was notified of the potential problem earlier this month that propane may have been shipped to the state without the additive that gives the gas a distinct smell. The smell helps homeowners detect possible propane leaks.
Massachusetts officials this week issued increase safety measures following an explosion that killed one person.
Dean said in the press release that residents need to follow normal safety procedures with handling any fuel, including propane.
