LEWISTON — Kierstyn McCombs scored off a penalty corner to break a deadlock and send Lewiston to its first won of the season, a 2-1 triumph over Morse in a KVAC field hockey game Saturday.
Natalie Rousseau gave the Blue Devils (1-5) a 1-0 lead on a feed from Marissa Zanoni, but Morse (0-6) tied it in the second half on Libby Amboe’s goal.
Lewiston, which had a 7-6 edge in penalty corners, finally converted on one when Arika Olsen got the ball to McCombs for the game winner.
Alison Lafreniere made five saves in goal for the victory, while Morse’s Jenny Dolloff had five stops.
Edward Little 4, Brunswick 1
AUBURN — After spotting Brunswick the early lead, Edward Little roared back with four unanswered goals for a 4-1 field hockey victory over the Dragons.
Grace Rabinowitz gave Brunswick a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the game, but the lead was short-lived when Marie Dufresne-Dixon tied it with an unassisted goal one minute later.
Emily Ranucci scored with six minutes remaining in the half to give EL the momentum. Kayla Nadeau assisted on the goal.
Mirnada Martin and Jordan Tate added second-half goals with Gabby LaPierre getting an assist on the final goal.
Amanda Williams made four saves for EL (5-2), while Sydney Escoe had seven saves for the Dragons (4-2-1).
Oxford Hills 3, Mt. Blue 0
FARMINGTON — Hannah Warren scored a pair goals as Oxford Hills waltzed past Mt. Blue with a 3-0 victory over Mt. Blue (1-5) in a field hockey game Saturday afternoon.
The Vikings (4-2) took a narrow 1-0 lead at halftime before Warren scored where second goal and Heather Verrier topped off Oxford Hills’ lead with another goal. Jessica Gauthier got an assist on Warren’s second goal.
Despite the Vikings’ shutout, the teams seemed evenly matched on offense, with Oxford Hills outshooting the Cougars, 9-8.
Girls’ soccer
Jay 7, Carrabec 1
JAY — Alexi Deering scored four goals to power Jay to a 7-1 victory over Carrabec in MVC girls’ soccer action.
Deering scored the first goal just two minutes into the contest. And, Casidee Couture made it 2-0 on a feed from Deering to get the ball rolling. The Tigers led 5-1 at the half.
Becca Bergeron scored the Cobras’ only goal on a penalty kick in the first half.
Goalie Marissa Murray made 13 saves for Carrabec, while Katie Beaulieu earned the win in net for Jay with nine saves.
Greenville 3, Rangeley 1
RANGELEY — Miranda Drinkwater scored a pair of goals to lead Greenville to a 3-1 victory over Rangeley in EWC girls’ soccer action Saturday.
With 12 seconds remaining in regulation, Sandra Campbell spoiled the shutout with a conversion from Olivia Decelles for Rangeley.
Goalie Emily Carrier made 17 saves for Rangeley, while Sidney Richardson earned the win in net for Greenville with 13 saves.
Madison 1, Mt. Abram 0
SALEM — Natalie Michaud found the net with a long, low shot with 32:51 remaining in the game to give Madison a 1-0 triumph over Mt. Abram.
Mt. Abram had an 11-7 advantage in shots. Alison Lopez had six saves for Mt. Abram (0-4-1), while Savanna Kaneiko made nine stops for Madison (3-2).
Gray-NG 3,
Lake Region 1
NAPLES — Taylor Darnell scored the eventual game-winner as Gray-New Gloucester took a 3-1 victory from Lake Region in WMC girls’ soccer action Saturday.
Maggie Chaplin scored the Patriots’ opening goal in the first half, while Julia Martell added an insurance tally in the second half.
Do Leckie cut Lake Region’s 2-0 halftime deficit in half with a dribble around the keeper and tally into the lower left corner of the cage in the opening seconds of the second half.
Leavitt 5, Rockland 0
TURNER — Leavitt made it a total team effort, with five players scoring a goal, as the Hornets rocked Rockland with a 5-0 victory.
The Hornets (5-1) jumped out to a 3-0 lead by halftime. Kelsea Marschall, Mariah Treadwell, Bri Hammond, Jenna Cote and Sydney Nadeau each scored a goal.
Leavitt outshot Rockland 18-1, with Hornets goalie Kelly Pomerleau making only one save to preserve her shutout.
Boys’ roundup
Mt. Blue 1, Brewer 0
BREWER — Blake hart headed in a corner kick with 2:47 remaining in overtime to give Mt. Blue a 1-0 bgoys’ soccer victory over Brewer on Saturday.
Gage Kennedy took the corner kick to set up the game-winner.
Matt Crowley made 12 saves to record the shutout for Mt. Blue (2-2-1). Spencer Valley was credited with eight stops for Brewer (2-3).
Mt. Abram 1, Telstar 1
SALEM — Mt. Abram and Telstar fought to a 1-1 tie Saturday in an MVC boys’ soccer game Saturday.
After a scoreless first half, the Rebels took the lead on Nate Mills’ shot on a pass from Dan Vaughn. Mt. Abram (3-1-1) tied it a minute slater when Parker Kennedy found the net on a shot set up by Jay Chenard.
Josh Beedy made five saves for Mt. Abram, while Telstar’s Rick james had four saves.
