FARMINGTON — The Mt. Blue High School Music Department has announced the 2010-2011 Syncopations. The Syncopations is an auditioned women’s vocal ensemble dedicated to performing a wide range of musical genres from pop to jazz to classical music.
This year’s singers include Alexandra Allen, Alexaiya Backman, Jessica Baxter, Gwendolyn Beacham, Rosa Cohen, Megan Collins, Kerri Cooper, Ivy Enoch, Laurel Fraley, Emily Kerr, Paige Kincaid, Astra Pierson, Emily Rice, Katherine Rice, Marissa Swain, Miranda Voter and Kristyn Wiles.
Carol Shumway is founder and director of the vocal ensemble and Patricia Hayden serves as pianist.
In April 2011, the Syncopations will travel to New York City to perform with the National High School Women’s Honor Festival Choir in Carnegie Hall. The young women from the Syncopations, in addition to other high school women from around the country, will rehearse under the direction of nationally known choral clinician, conductor and music educator Dr. Sandra Snow, associate professor of music education and choral conducting at Michigan State University.
Snow also served on faculty of the University of Michigan, Northern Illinois University and directed the Glen Ellyn Children’s Chorus of Chicago.
The Syncopations will host bottle drives, poinsettia flower sales, raffles and many other fundraising activities to reach their goal of performing in Carnegie Hall. For more information or to contact the group for performances, contact Shumway at [email protected] or at 778-5215.
