LISBON FALLS — The Lisbon Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13. Dr. William Lemke, professor of history at St. Joseph’s College in Standish, will speak on the American Revolution.

Lemke’s talk, entitled “Myths and Truths about America’s War for Independence from Britain,” will examine some better known – and lesser known – truisms of the event.

He served four terms in the Maine State Legislature, representing Westbrook, and worked in Sen. George Mitchell’s first run for the U.S. Senate. He is also the author of several books, including “Pride of Lions” and “The Wild, Wild East.”

The speaker at the Nov. 10 meeting will be the society’s treasurer and assistant archivist-curator, Bill Barr, who will give a presentation at 7 p.m. titled “Lisbon in 1915.”

Barr will use information gathered from the society’s archive collection to present an educational and fun evening for all attending. Barr is active in the American Legion Post 66 and belongs to the Masonic Lodge as well. He was the owner of Robert’s Pharmacy a number of years ago in Lisbon Falls and he was the pharmacist there during that time. He is one of the originators of Lisbon Historical Society.

The Lisbon Historical Society is located at the MTM Center, Rooms 5 and 6, 18 School St. Those attending should use the rear entrance. For more information, visit www.lisbonmainehistory.org.
