OTISFIELD — A 28-year-old Portland man and a 7-year-old boy were seriously injured in an ATV incident Sunday evening off Lake Road in Otisfield, according to a release from the Maine Warden Service.
Jordan Anderson, 28, of Portland was operating a friend’s 2005 Polaris 700 Twin ATV at approximately 5:05 p.m. on a driveway off the Lake Road with the owner’s 7-year-old son seated on the back, the release stated.
“Both had left a get-together at the house and had driven down the driveway, turned around and were coming back to the house when they drove off the left side of the driveway,” according to MWS Warden Rick Stone.
The ATV struck some large rocks as it dropped off the driveway, and appears to have spun sideways. The left side of the ATV stuck some more large rocks after it hit the ground, the release stated.
Both the operator and the passenger suffered injuries on their left sides. The ATV’s left front tire hit more rocks, and the force broke the tire off the axle, causing the ATV to go airborne for approximately 15 feet further before it landed upside down. Both people were thrown off the ATV about the same distance and landed off to the side of the ATV.
The total distance the 740-pound ATV traveled after leaving the driveway was approximately 45 feet, according to Stone.

Both were transported to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.
Monday the Warden Service declined to release the name of the owner of the ATV or the name of the child who was injured in the incident.
The incident remains under investigation, according to the Warden Service.
