LEWISTON — Nick Champion will get the start, and 17-year-old forward Francis Beauvillier, a healthy scratch on Sunday, will be back in the lineup Wednesday night as the Lewiston Maineiacs square off against the Chicoutimi Sageueneens.

Coach J.F. Houle confirmed these lineup moves this afternoon as the team is preparing to face its divisional rival. The Sags and Maineiacs played once earlier this season, on Lewiston’s first road trip, and Chicoutimi came from behind late to steal a win in a shootout.

Former Maineiac captain Billy Lacasse was the hero for the Sags in that one, netting two goals and adding two assists. Since then, he’s added just three points to his total while battling an injury.

Also returning to Lewiston Wednesday is Eric Gelinas. The hulking defenseman missed the first matchup of the season against Lewiston while attending New Jersey Devils training camp, and has been slow to get things rolling since, putting up just one assist in six games. His plus/minus rating is down at minus-7.

The Maineiacs, meanwhile, continue to play Jeckyll and Hyde. The Maineiacs have won five games and lost seven, though two losses have been via the shootout. With 12 points, Lewiston sits fourth in its six-team division, behind Quebec, Rimouski and Victoriaville, and just ahead of Chicoutimi. A win Wednesday would lift Lewiston into a tie for second with Rimouski at 14 points.

Celebration time

The Lewiston Maineiacs haven’t been around as some of the other squads in the QMJHL, but the team will pass an important milestone this weekend.

Saturday will mark the team’s 500th regular-season game in the league, meaning Wednesday’s matchup with the Sags will be No. 499. To celebrate, the team announced late Tuesday afternoon that fans will have an opportunity to purchase $4.99 tickets to the game if they receive the team’s e-mail newsletter, print the attached coupon, and visit the box office at the Colisee between noon and 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Quebec on top

A look around the league finds the Quebec Remparts carrying the torch on a national level. The Remparts are the top-ranked team in the latest Canadian Hockey League Top 10, with a record of 9-0-0-1. Quebec is the lone team unbeaten in regulation in the CHL.

Drummondville is in those same rankings at No. 5, and Acadie-Bathurst crept in at No. 8.
