The post office department has recently issued notices calling the attention of patrons to the advantage of providing facilities for the receipt of their mail by erecting conveniently accessible boxes or cutting suitable slots in their doors. Such action would enable the postmaster to give a prompter and better delivery service with the means at his disposal, since the carriers can cover much more territory in less time if not compelled to wait for an answer to their ring. Private receptacles for mail also permit the safe delivery of mail in the absence of members of the household.

Lewiston police officers won’t be doing so much running around for members of the Board of Aldermen in the future.

Going along with a suggestion by Ward One Alderman Gregory W. Weber, the council voted 4-2 last night to abandon the practice of having police officers deliver to the homes of the aldermen printed notices of regular meetings. This has been going on for years. Police still will be asked to deliver notices when special and emergency sessions come up.

LISBON — The Lisbon Recreation Department’s adult two-hand touch football double-elimination tournament continues on Sunday when the Swamp Hogs meet the Outlaws at 9 a.m. and Woofaboomis faces the Mules at 10:30 a.m.

In the final league standings the Outlaws, the Mules and Woofaboomis are tied for first place with three wins and no losses.
