NORWAY — Western Maine Community Action Health Services, in partnership with Healthy Oxford Hills and Stephens Memorial Hospital, will host a Women’s Health Fair in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at 9 Marston St.
Women in the community 40 and older who haven’t had a pap test or clinical breast exam in over a year will be able to get a pap test, a breast exam, bone density and blood pressure screenings at no cost to them.
In addition, participating women may receive complimentary mini-massages, facials or a yoga session. There will be information on a variety of health topics, giveaways and healthy snacks.
“National Breast Cancer Awareness month is important because it encourages women to take time for their health,” said Sara Hayes, FNP, one of the WMCA Health Services nurse practitioners who will be doing the clinical exams at the event.
“Women are often the caregivers for their families and, as a result, are too busy taking care of everyone else to think about taking care of themselves. This event is to remind women that they too need to visit their health care provider, make sure their screenings are up to date and just take a minute to take care of themselves. It is their time,” she said.
