HARTFORD — Board of Selectmen Chairman Lee Holman announced Thursday night that the annual candidates’ night and supper will be held Wednesday, Oct. 27, at the Town Hall.

The town is hosting the monthly meeting of the Oxford County Municipal Officers Association in conjunction with candidates’ night. Holman expects county and local candidates to attend. The supper is at 6:30 p.m.

The supper will be cooked by the Heritage Society ladies, Holman said. The cost is $7.

In other news, the board reviewed permits filed by the code enforcement officer for two additions to mobile homes on Mahoney Road and Main Street and a bunkhouse on Beech Road.

Four complaints were filed by the animal control officer of dogs running loose.

Holman reported that crews were busy cutting brush.

“They will continue to cut until snow flies,” she said. There was a complaint of potholes on Berry Road, but Holman said Road Commissioner Jeremy Johnson had ordered cold patch for potholes.

The Maine Municipal Agency survey found the need for a fire extinguisher in the Town Hall and the need for brush to be cut around the Town Garage.

Selectman Jack Plumley said the code enforcement officer would have to approve the brush-cutting because it is near a brook.

The cost estimator for the Maine Municipal Association suggested the town increase its municipal building replacement insurance by 5 percent. This would not cost the town more; it was approved by the board.

The town is still looking for volunteers for the Road Committee and the Solid Waste Committee.

The tax rate has been set at $15 per $1,000 of assessed property value. That’s 25 cents more than last year, Town Clerk Lianne Bedard said.

The annual Christmas Craft Fair will be held Saturday, Oct. 30, in the Town Hall.
