100 years ago, 1910

The new signs forbidding expectoration on the sidewalks and placing the penalty therefore at $20 have been posted in Auburn. They are of blue enameled metal with white lettering. Similar signs to be posted in Lewiston were ordered at the same time and from the same house as were the Auburn signs, and are expected to arrive any day now. They will be posted as soon as they are received.

50 years ago, 1960

The Lewiston Board of Education has accepted a Central Maine Youth Center price for LHS hockey practice along with the same percentage of the “take” at LHS games played there, it was learned yesterday.

LHS will pay $20 an hour for LHS hockey team practice sessions. The CMYC will receive 40 percent of the gate for regular games.

25 years ago, 1985

Free videotaping as part of a complete child-identification file is being offered by Norther Utilities in association with the Auburn Mall Merchants Association and Boy Scout Troop 111.

On Nov. 2, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., volunteers from Northern Utilities and Troop 111 will fingerprint and videotape children. The Child Watch program will be located in the Auburn Mall near Porteous

The only copy of the videotape and I.D. form will become the property of each child’s family, but may be given to law-enforcement agencies if the child is abducted or lost.
