BANGOR, Maine (AP) — A trial is under way for a 56-year-old Maine man charged with two counts of murder in the shooting deaths of two brothers on a street outside his Biddeford home.

Rory Holland’s attorney told jurors in his opening statement Monday that Holland feared for his life and fired in self-defense when he killed 19-year-old Gage Greene and 21-year-old Derek Greene early June 30, 2009.

But prosecutors said Holland had been in a fight with one of the brothers a week before the shooting and intentionally shot them.

Police say Holland shot the brothers after Gage Greene pushed him.

A judge last month ordered the trial moved to Bangor after defense attorneys said it would be difficult for Holland to get a fair trial in York County.
