MOUNT VERNON, Maine (AP) — A Maine father and his 4-year-old child are safe after they got lost in the woods near their Mount Vernon home.

Mount Vernon Fire Chief Dana Dunn said the pair were missing for about an hour Sunday before they were located by a firefighter.

Dunn says he’s unsure if the child was a boy or a girl.

The Kennebec Journal says firefighters, Maine State Police, Warden Service and others began the search about 5 p.m.

The two were found before additional resources could be brought to the scene.
