Beginning today and continuing through Friday and Saturday, “Old Folks Week” will be observed at Hammond Bros. studio, Lewiston. During this time all persons over 65 years of age will be given a free sitting and presented with one fine cabinet photo. And to the oldest person sitting for pictures during that time a life-size portrait and frame, valued at $10, will be presented free of charge.
50 years ago, 1960
Six Auburn police officers, the newest recruits on the department, are to attend the State Police training school at Camp Keyes, Augusta, from Nov. 27 to Dec. 16.
Chief Alton E. Savage said last night that the six who will take the training are Steve Mehalcik, Arnold Beleckis, Carleton Ramsdell, Laurier Lalonde, Philip Cochems and Alton Russell.
The men will have to stay at the school five days a week, returning home on Friday nights, for the three-week training session.
25 years ago, 1985
Rumford’s new town manager, John Madigan, was the guest speaker at the Rumford Merchants’ Association banquet Tuesday at Madison’s Restaurant. Several association officers posed for a picture with Madigan — Vito Garcetta, vice-president; Pauline Davis, secretary-treasurer; and John Bartash, president. Sixty-five people attended the banquet which was sponsored by the 17-member Rumford Merchants’ Association to increase membership.
