HOPE, Maine (AP) — Maine State Police say three young people are dead after a pickup truck hit a tree in the Knox County town of Hope.

The crash was reported at about 10:45 p.m. Monday.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as 21-year-old Daniel Dodge II of Hope. The passengers were 17-year-old Katie Kelly of Rockland and 14-year-old Misti Leach of South Thomaston.

Police say Kelly and Leach were killed on impact. Dodge died at the scene after being freed from the wreckage by emergency crews.

Police say Kelly was a student at Rockland High School. Leach was an eighth grade student, but police weren’t sure at which school.
