LEWISTON — The Abused Women’s Advocacy Project recently announced its new name and unveiled its logo.

Jane Morrison, the executive director of the organization, said the new name, Safe Voices, (www.safevoices.org) better represents their mission and goals. Safe Voices works with all people who are experiencing domestic violence in any kind of relationship, she said.

Safe Voices will continue to provide services to men and children, as well as women. Even though they have been in business for 34 years, Morrison said the previous name created a gender bias that resulted in some individuals thinking there was no place for men to turn.
