BRIDGTON — Bridgton Hospital recognized five employees on Nov. 4 for their commitment to patient care excellence through an employee recognition program entitled GEMS (Growth, Enthusiasm, Motivation and Spirit).

The GEMS awards were presented to Lisa Charette, RN, Diamond level; Laurie Dougherty, RN, Ruby level; Paula Cox, Ruby level; Joanne McLaughlin, RN, Ruby level; and Lori Stacy, RN, Ruby level.

The GEMS Program, offered system-wide within the Central Maine Medical Center Family, has five major objectives: improve the quality of patient care and customer service, honor the clinical disciplines from novice to expert, provide a sustainable recognition and reward program, provide a process of recognition with clear, measurable and attainable criteria, and promote the retention and recruitment of highly motivated professionals committed to excellence.

Bobbi Cribby, RN, clinical practice director, provided information about the history of the GEMS Program and outlined the goals of recognition with the program.

The following department managers of the awardees presented the GEMS certificates, award lapel pins and bouquets:

Donna Joyce, RN, first assistant and manager of Surgical Services, presented a Diamond level award to Lisa Charette, RN.

Jill Rollins, RN, manager of the Inpatient and Emergency Departments, recognized Laurie Dougherty, RN, Joanne McLaughlin, RN, and Lori Stacy, RN, all at the Ruby level.

June Gabriel, manager of Plant Operations, presented Paula Cox with a Ruby level award.

The afternoon event concluded with David Frum, president, Bridgton Hospital, acknowledging the dedication and energy of the awardees and thanking them for their commitment. Cribby reminded Bridgton Hospital and Bridgton Hospital Physician Group employees to review the criteria for GEMS selection and to consider applying for GEMS status in the years ahead.
