LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope and Healing at Central Maine Medical Center was voted one of the top 20 organizations in the country to receive Livestrong Community Impact Project funding.

Over a two-week period, more than 260,000 online votes were cast for 179 hospitals, cancer centers and community organizations in eight regions across the United States.

The $10,000 award will be used to implement the SuperSibs! program, which provides ongoing, targeted support to an underserved and often unrecognized cancer survivor population: siblings of children with cancer.

SuperSibs ensures that these children, the “shadow survivors,” do not feel alone, insignificant or forgotten, and can face the future with strength, courage and hope.

SuperSibs will be an integral part of the Dempsey Center’s Healing Tree Children’s Program, led by Children’s Program Coordinator Tookie Bright.

“I’m thrilled and honored we have received this gift,” said Bright. “The SuperSibs program allows us to serve even more children and provide quality care for families affected by cancer.”

Since its inception in 1997, Livestrong has invested more than $68 million in community-centered organizations.
