Long-suffering Lewiston residents tired of turning on a tap and seeing nothing come out can breathe a sigh of relief. The City Council Tuesday night authorized $1.7 million in improvements to the city’s water system.
Since 1939, engineering consultants have urged the city to improve water pressure for residents living in higher elevations. Each year, by delaying the improvements, the cost to the city slowly climbed from an original $155,000 to today’s $1.7 million.
On Tuesday, the City Council approved a plan that would divide water service into “low” and “high-service” areas that would leave pressure as is in the low-service area but boost water pressure in the high-service area from 20 to 30 pounds per square inch.
