While free from any attempt at decoration, Auburn Hall has rarely presented a more pleasing sight than that which greeted the eyes last evening. The occasion was the 19th annual concert and ball given under the auspices of the Relief Association of the Auburn Fire Department. Miller and Emery’s orchestra furnished very acceptable music for the concert and for a dance of 16 numbers. Pettengill catered.
50 years ago, 1960
Agreement between the management of the Lewiston Gas Light Co. and District 50 of the United Mine Workers has been reached but no announcement has yet been made on the terms of the contract between the two.
It was learned last night the two parties are in complete agreement on the terms of the new contract which expired Nov. 17. An announcement of the terms is expected soon.

Long Lake Broadcasting Corp. has appointed Frank de Francesco as general manager of radio stations WAYU-FM and WCOU-AM in Lewiston.
In September during the convention for the Maine Association of Broadcasters, de Francesco received the highest honors in the state’s broadcast industry. He was named Broadcaster of the Year.
De Francesco served as general manager of radio stations WIDE-AM and WBYC-FM in Biddeford for Hoy Communications since 1966 and was general manager for WLAM in Auburn for Hoy Communications from 1974-1976.
