Auburn’s police are investigating the burning of two cottages at the Lake Saturday night. The cottages which were burned were those of Silas Phinney and Charles Small of Auburn. The cottage of Joseph Phoenix of Lewiston was scorched.

No cause for the fire can be given. Mr. Phinney was at his cottage in the afternoon but states there was but little fire in the stove when he left and that he is positive that he closed the stove up tight. The fire is believed to have caught in his cottage, however. The cottages are located on Brigg’s Point.

Sunday River Ski Area in Bethel reported a three-inch snowfall. Five trails and three chairlifts will be open.
