SABATTUS — A pleasant affair is being planned for December 16, when a masquerade ball will be held in Lombard’s Hall, under the auspices of Lake Sabattus Lodge, No. 79, K. of P. Music will be furnished by Pettengill’s orchestra and cars will leave for the city after the dance. A prize will be given to the lady wearing the most attractive costume and one to the man wearing the most ridiculous costume.

50 years ago, 1960

Lewiston Ward Two Alderman John M. Lavertu is suggesting the city tap No Name Pond for drinking water purposes.

In tapping No Name Pond, Lavertu is proposing the construction of a pumping station and stand-pipe there.

Lewiston gets its entire water supply from Lake Auburn. There has been much discussion during the past year or more of obtaining an additional water supply to provide for the increasing needs of the city as it expands in all directions.

Bates College in Lewiston has named five top students from Maine as L.L. Bean Scholars, college officials announced Friday.

They are Karen Drugge of Farmington, Russell Libby of West Buxton, Jeffrey Caron of Thomaston, Brian Davis of Falmouth and Heather Larlee of Oakfield.

The scholarships are awarded to students according to their academic ability and leadership qualities as well as financial need, said William C. Hiss, dean of admissions and financial aid at Bates.
